The largest tropical glacier on the planet.
In the Vilcanota mountain range, south of Cusco, the Quelccaya Glacier is a rarely visited natural wonder — ice, glacial lagoons, and nature in its purest state.
The journey crosses Andean communities, agricultural valleys, and herds of alpacas to the community of Phinaya, at about 4,700 m, the starting point of the hike.
From there, a short hike takes you to the glacier at approximately 5,300 m, featuring impressive ice formations and sweeping views of the mountain range — a true destination for adventurers.

Common questions about this itinerary.
The hike itself is short (~30 min), but the altitude (~5,300 m) makes it more strenuous. The real challenge is the long drive and the altitude — not the trekking.
It takes about 5 to 6 hours of driving just one way. That's why we depart in the early morning and it makes for a long day.
Yes — bring thermal wear, a waterproof jacket, gloves, and a beanie. Temperatures at the glacier are very low.
